One of my favorite local events makes an inspired pivot this year, thanks to the creative thinking of its host organization. The Lafayette Juniors annual Kitchen Tour has long been a fundraising staple for this wonderful charitable organization. I continue to be proud of introducing this idea over two decades ago while serving as the major fundraising chair and couldn’t be prouder of the creative thinking that continues today. The funds raised from the tour are donated to several worthy East Bay nonprofits that rely on groups like Lafayette Juniors to help meet their budgets. This year, rather than cancel the event that traditionally leads guests through local home kitchens, Lafayette Juniors is taking the tour outside to become The Outdoor Living Tour.
The Outdoor Living Tour, Saturday, May 1, is a self-guided peek into the uniquely and masterfully designed outdoor spaces at six beautiful Lafayette homes. Whether seeking ideas for your own backyard project, or simply desiring to enjoy some outdoor time, the breathtaking landscaping, gorgeous outdoor conversation spaces, and beautiful settings will inspire.
The tour requires social distance and mask compliance, and hand sanitizer will be available at all locations. The number of people in each yard will be limited. Addresses will be emailed upon ticket purchase, and guests can begin at any home.
Beneficiaries this year include Youth Alive! and Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa.
Tickets are $50 each ($45 of which is tax deductible), or $65 to include a Gourmet Nosh Box provided by local kitchen My Sustainable Table. Purchase tickets here.
Hope to see you on the tour!
