Decorator Math – Hanging Art & Mirrors Using Ruler Guidelines

Take some of the guesswork out of hanging art and mirrors by taking tips from expert designers.

Reading through Lisa Cregan’s May 2012 House Beautiful article titled, “101 Designer Secrets,” we found lots of great tips, including these three for hanging art and mirrors in your home that will have you pulling out a 12 inch ruler:

From J. Randall Powers: “The perfect amount of space between a mirror and the top of the mantel is 7 inches.”

From Milly De Cabrol: “When you’re hanging a series of pictures together, keep the gap between them 2″ to 2 ½” to really utilize the wall space, and keep a minimum of 9″ between art and the tops of sofas and chairs.”
